We had a few days to recoup at home after our Gold Coast trip, whilst P.J. Proby performed concerts in Far North Queensland in The Great Barrier Reef coastal cities of Cairns, (Brothers Leagues Club), on the 8th and Townsville, (The Casino) on 11th August, 2004. Of course we would have preferred to have attended those concerts as well, but it was not possible due to the distance, time constraints and costs involved. My wife's cousin, Gaye, had caught a flight from Melbourne to Sydney, and then a train to our place on the New South Wales Central Coast in order to join us for P.J.'s Sydney concerts, after which we would fly to Melbourne with her to attend the final concert at Crown Casino. The first of the Sydney concerts was on Friday, 13th August and it was just a short drive down the expressway before we reached the northern outskirts of Sydney. I couldn't help but recall making the same journey four months earlier when we took my eldest son, Scott and his wife, Jenny, to Sydney Airport to farewell them as they set off on an around the world working holiday adventure. Scott was raised with my Proby music and although he later preferred the music of his own generation he retained an appreciation of Proby's great voice and was looking forward to catching P.J. in concert when they reached the U.K. At that time we had all but given up hope of seeing P.J. Proby perform in Australia again, despite indications from internet friends and staunch Proby fans, U.P, (The Netherlands), and Bjorn Lund, (Sweden), that a tour Downunder was a possibility. We had heard that speculation before and been disappointed, and it seemed to me that no promoter had the good sense to bring Proby back out here. We were contemplating the possibility of a trip to the U.K. later down the track to visit the kids and maybe see P.J. in concert. But, at that time, little did we know we would soon get the opportunity to see P.J. Proby performing right here in Australia.
